Award-winning folk-pop artist Genna Matthew finds the sonic sweet spot between timeless roots influences and dreamy indie-pop hooks. Her evocative lyrics and crystalline voice cut through the noise, straight to the core.

Genna was raised by the vibrant Folk/Amaricana scene of central Virginia. Her bittersweet sound sugarcoats wistful lyrics with honey-smooth vocals. Her songwriting has been recognized both regionally and internationally, most recently as the Grand Prize Winner of Nashville’s Music City Songstar Competition.

Her 2016 EP, ‘My Old Habits’, features a stellar cast of Virginia-rooted artists, including Johnny Stubblefield (Parachute), Sam Wilson (Sons of Bill), Chris Pandolfi (Infamous Stringdusters), Butch Taylor (Dave Matthews Band), and Matt Wood (Erin and the Wildfire).

In 2018 she traded the Blue Ridge Mountains for the Spanish coast, where she completed her Masters in Contemporary Music Performance and Production at Berklee’s Valencia campus.

Now based in Nashville, TN, Genna recently wrapped her first full-length record with producer Jake Finch. This forthcoming record is a vibrant departure from her Americana-forward EP, and explores a new sonic space that wraps her folk-inspired writing in a lush, indie-pop atmosphere.

upcoming release - 2023

“Broken Record” incapsulates the bittersweet lifecycle of heartbreak, from unhindered young love, to the ache of love lost, and the self-discovery it takes to heal. In collaboration with producer Jake Finch, Genna’s folk-inspired and lyric-forward songwriting is wrapped in a lush indie-pop atmosphere. Drawing from influences like Phoebe Bridgers, Muna, Kacey Musgraves and The Japanese House, this record is intended to make you cry-sing with the windows down, and come back for more.
